Durga Puja demands 3 days public holiday


Mr. Rajib Sharma, Ctg. Office: Bangladesh National Hindu Forum, Hindu Youth Forum and Hindu Student Forum have demanded a three-day public holiday in Durga Puja, a major religious festival of Hindu religion.

They demanded from a human chain held in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Friday.

Manik Chandra Sarker, Secretary General of National Hindu Forum, Ravindra Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Minority Watch, Vice-President of Central Committee of Bangladesh National Hindu Forum, Kalipad Majumder, Prof. Ashok Taru, Rampad Das were present in the meeting.

Manik Chandra Sarkar said, “One-day public holidays in Durga Puja for three days are extremely short. Hindu leaders are demanding a three-day holiday from the present government. But no response was received. However, we think that the announcement of a government holiday is the demand of the day, as it is the largest religious festival of the Hindu community of Durga Puja recognized by UNESCO.

He hoped the government would meet their demands this time.

Apart from extending holidays of worship, formation of Ministry of Minority Affairs, quota of 20 percent of minority population in government service, keeping Hindu family law up to date; The human chain demanded immediate action.
